dancing, storytelling, hunting, fishing, healing, thanksgiving,

Ognuno in quel luogo ha la sua storia,
quella storia che lo ha spinto per dolore o necessità a
rifugiarsi lì, lontano da tutto e da tutti, quella dell’Alaska è
una poesia riflessiva di tutte le anime che lì hanno cercato se
stesse nel silenzio dei lunghi fiumi, al dolce sottile rumore
della pioggia, che sveglia dolcemente il villaggio, invitando
tutti al lavoro, alla pesca , al taglio degli alberi.

Allo sciamano viene chiesta una intercessione proprio quando è necessario
ristabilire l'armonia tra gli uomini, gli dei e gli animali. Il suo intervento è
costituito da un viaggio nell'aldilà, che egli compie attraverso la maschera,
per scoprire le cause del risentimento divino. Una volta tornato, lo sciamano o
angakok suggerirà i rituali di riparazione.

Occasionalmente però si verificano casi insoliti, per esempio che uno spirito
malvagio rapisca l'anima di un uomo. In questi casi è necessario l'aiuto di un
guaritore, che ha il dono di mettersi in contatto con il mondo degli spiriti e
lì compiere le azioni giuste per salvare l'anima rapita. Quest'uomo è lo
sciamano. Essere sciamano non è un lavoro, ma una vocazione, o una malattia.

Gli Inuit non seppelliscono i morti
perché questi emergerebbero fuori a causa del movimento
degli strati bassi della terra. Di qui la loro tradizione di darli in pasto agli
orsi e di nutrirsi in seguito dei medesimi animali.

INUK -
Dna di un uomo vissuto 4.000 anni fa.
Un team d’esperti danesi, utilizzando alcune ciocche di capelli,
ritrovate nel 1986 sull’isola di
Qeqertasussuk (Groenlandia) insieme con
altri resti, sono riusciti a ricostruire il Dna dell’uomo a cui
appartenevano, vissuto 4.000 anni fa.
L’uomo è stato chiamato “Inuk” e
apparteneva ai Saqqaqs una popolazione che
oltre 5.000 anni fa si trasferì dalla Siberia alla Groenlandia. L’uomo
aveva carnagione, occhi e cappelli scuri e forti denti anteriori a base
quadrata forse dovuti alla sua alimentazione a base di carne di foca.
I capelli ritrovati, sono una delle poche tracce trovate nel permafrost
di questa popolazione i Saqqaqs che per primi popolarono la Groenlandia.
Il Dna d’Inuk ha fornito dati sul suo sangue di tipo A+, sul metabolismo
e sulla corporatura tipica delle popolazioni adatta a vivere in luoghi
freddi.
Non solo si è potuto accertare che il suo
Dna è diverso da quello degli Inuit ma che è simile a quello delle
popolazioni artiche della Siberia e che quindi i Saqqaqs arrivarono in
Groenlandia prima d’altre popolazioni.

are among the most
important objects created by the Inuit who were the first people to inhabit
portions of Alaska, Arctic Canada, and Greenland. The term
Inuksuk
(the singular of Inuksuit) means 'to act in the capacity of a human.' It is an
extension of Inuk, meaning 'a human being.

Inuksuit - Signposts of the North
An "inuksuk" (pronounced "in-uk-shuk")
is a monument used for communication and survival that is usually made of
un-worked stones.
Inuksuit (plural) have been used by the Inuit people as guides and markers for
special places in the Arctic, marking trails, caches of food, nearby people, or
the migration routes of caribou.
Such a marker is of considerable importance on a landscape that could be
otherwise featureless or constantly changing because of ice and snow. These "signposts"
were essential for survival and Inuit tradition forbids their destruction.

found in the icy ground of their adopted homeland?
It's hard to say.
Regardless of its true age, 'Mammoth' is a magnificent string figure.

Historically,
the native Indians who lived along the river valleys and coastal
waters of the Pacific Northwest were all hunters and gatherers.
The region was blessed with abundant resources from both the seas
and forests. These people captured in their artwork the animals
they hunted and observed. These included bears, killer whales,
eagles, ravens, salmons, wolves, hummingbirds and even frogs.
Chiefs and mythical characters important in their legends such as
thunderbirds were also included as art subjects.
